 White-winged Fairywren (Malurus leucopterus)
Nikon D300, Nikkor 300 f4, 1.4XC, f/5.6, 1/2000sec, ISO 320, Exposure bias +0.3step PS, sharpening, light levels, cloning of a branch from behind tail. Image about 60% of original size
Photo taken on a overcast day at a full Lake Bindegolly at midday. The Fairy-wrens (White-winged and Variegated) were common around the picnic area. The thick branch dominates the bird a bit but I can't do much about it, any ideas?
Any comments, critique and reposts welcome

Love the Greyscale Background! One of the best WWFW Shots I've ever seen!

 Re: White-winged Fairywren (Malurus leucopterus)
Havent seen many photos posted of these guys, so I dare say there will be some jealous people out there (me included!). Dull conditions, but you have managed them well. The large perch doesnt worry me. The bird could maybe go a touch lighter though - at least on my monitor, but then you'd be close to blowing the whites, so the only option would be to selectively lighten the blues which may make it look unnatural.

 Re: White-winged Fairywren (Malurus leucopterus)
Regarding the branch dominating the small bird I think if it you were to crop out some of the bottom that might help. As it is the bird looks to be dead in the centre so perhaps you have a little room for a small crop? 'Tis a lovely shot otherwise.

Wonderful capture Heyn - ive done some changes in PS as a suggestion - cropped the image, cloned out a little of the branch, changed the levels and curves and some selective sharpen cheers David Taylor, Brisbane

 Re: White-winged Fairywren (Malurus leucopterus)
Nice image of a species that's on my 'to get' list when in Bowra. Perch looks fine to me and I think the overcast conditions have been your friend. I can imagine that full sunshine would be a nightmare in which to get both the dark and white areas exposed correctly. I'd be very happy to have this one in my collection.

Great looking bird and well done getting an image.
Dave's repost is excellent and has taken the image up a few notches.

I agree that it needed lightening, but I think David has lightened it a little too far (note, Ihave never seen this species, I'm just basing this on other images I've seen of this species). Otherwise, fantastic work Ashwin
