Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus)
It has been quite hot here lately, bordering on 30 degrees and it's meant to be in the middle or winter! As such, birds havent exactly been terribly active.
Not exactly the most uncommon species around, but on quiet days you take what you get! One look at these guys and it is little wonder they are called stilts, look at those legs! Taken at Goorganga Wetlands on my usual 1-hour bird watching expedition on Sunday afternoons
Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus)Canon 1D Mk IV, 500 + 1.4x extender, ISO 800, f/5.6, 1/640s, subject distance: 25.2m. About 70% of FF, levels adjustment, multiple passes of smart sharpen. Would have been nice to have some sunlight and catch the red colours in the eye.
