 White-winged Fairy-wren (female)
I still haven't got a decent image of the stunning males, they'd be the most uncooperative Fairy-wren species I've encountered so far. Happy to get a few nice shots of the girls though. Canon 40D & 100-400mm L 1/2000s f/8 ISO 400 Monopod *Cloned a couple of little twigs... again. White-winged Fairy-wren - Malurus leucopterus

 Re: White-winged Fairy-wren (female)
You're making me jealous Rich! I love my wrens, and at least of all the species I've had the pleasure of photographing, this would definitely be the hardest yet! The males are super skittish and the females always end up looking so anaemic, especially up in the arid interior of WA! You've captured this girl nicely, my only thoughts would be a little more sharpening around the face, and perhaps a bit more room at the top? A nicely dabbled-OOF backdrop!..
Roughly what time was this captured?

Fantastic Rich! Wow imagine if this was a male. I can never get close enough to this species, usually cause theres a fence in the way....boy they love barbwire! Love that earthy coloured background, displays the habitat without actually displaying it (if you know what I mean lol). As usual sharp as a tack. More western images please.

Very nice as always Richard. Sharpening looks quite good to me. Like Grant I also like that the BG is not totally OOF. The mottled look works well and I can just imagine the BG of boxthorns and earth.

Beautiful shot Rich! Love the pose and the bg. The perch compliments the bird very nicely.

Thanks guys. pictorella wrote: Wow imagine if this was a male. I know! I've never had the males cooperate at all. I 'squeaked' this girl in close, actually, most of the girls came closer to check out what was making the odd noise, but the male (as usual) wasn't in the least bit interested. I'll get one of them one day!! scotty_mcg wrote: Roughly what time was this captured? EXIF data (it's in the photo still ) says it was captured at 9:52am.

Stunning as usual Rich! This really is a cracker. Nothing more to say. (I hate the way its always the females that come out while the male hides )

Thanks fellas. David Stowe wrote: (I hate the way its always the females that come out while the male hides ) I know, I felt like throwing my camera at these White-winged males... so darn frustrating lol. Oh well, I'll just try and picture what this image would look like with a male in place of this female.
