PhotoTwitch – Winner
November 18, 2009
The results are now in for the inaugural Australia-wide PhotoTwitch. Judging by the participants comments, the event was a great success with every participant reporting that they very much enjoyed the competition (surely the most important way to judge a contest). Inclement weather in the southern states had a big impact on the totals, although many participants reported surprise at how high their totals were against the odds.
Here’s the results:
Pictorella 85 species
Arron 74 species
Steve_Happ 70 species
KristyP 71 species
Mister.Troy 68 species
NolanC 55 species
Ashy Drongo 54 species
Craig Miller 36 species
So we have a clear winner. Grant (Pictorella) with 85 species. Not bad for a mere 5 hours before rain forced him indoors. Congratulations Grant.
There were 8 participants, 6 from NSW, 1 from Qld and one from NT
The total number of eligible photos taken was 514
That is an average of 64 species per contestant
The total number of unique species was 213. A full species list will be posted separately.

Till next year.
The Inaugural Australia-wide PhotoTwitch
October 19, 2009
The inaugural Australia-wide PhotoTwitch will he held on Sunday 8th November 2009. This event is open to all comers, so if you have a camera, a few hours to spare and love Australian wildlife then please join us.
The PhotoTwitch is similar to a regular twitchathon except that rather then visually identifying a species you are required to take a photograph of a specimen of each bird species that you wish to include. Upon completion, participants will notify us of their species tallies and the results collated to provide an eventual winner. The winner will be the person with the highest species count.
There is no entry fee and you don’t need to pre-register, though you will need to register as a member of this site (Birding-Oz.com.au) to post your results. There is no charge for registration on BirdingOz.com.au and it only takes a minute or two.
Your approach to this event can be as competitive or non-competitive as you want. Many participants will see the event as simply a chance to have fun while satisfying their own curiosity about how many species they can photograph in a day.
There are no prizes on offer. Nonetheless the honour system rules and please be conservative with your identifications.
Upon completion, every participant should publish their list of species for which they have achieved an identifiable photograph as a reply to this thread. Please have your lists up by one week after the event. A few days later, a master list will be compiled and posted. Please attempt to order your list in line with conventional taxonomy (ie same order as in your field guide will do). Please also identify each species with the current accepted scientific and common name, again the names used in your field guide will suffice.
For more details on this even please visit out forums.

Please read through the rules carefully.
Good luck and have fun.
Welcome
July 12, 2009
Hello all and welcome to the all new BirdingOz.
After some technical issues we’ve taken the time to give the entire site a complete overhaul. Unfortunately all members are required to re-register on the forums, for this we apologise.
Our goal remains the same: To continue as Australia’s premier online birding community, for birders and photographers alike. Over the coming weeks we will be adding a great deal of new content to the site for your enjoyment including: news, reviews, technique tips, location information and other related articles from our members.
If you would like to see your photos featured on our homepage (see below) please take a minute to add them to the BirdingOz Flickr group and they will be randomly displayed.
So again, welcome back to the new BirdingOz.
