The Inaugural Australia-wide PhotoTwitch

October 19, 2009

The inaugural Australia-wide PhotoTwitch will he held on Sunday 8th November 2009. This event is open to all comers, so if you have a camera, a few hours to spare and love Australian wildlife then please join us.

The PhotoTwitch is similar to a regular twitchathon except that rather then visually identifying a species you are required to take a photograph of a specimen of each bird species that you wish to include. Upon completion, participants will notify us of their species tallies and the results collated to provide an eventual winner. The winner will be the person with the highest species count.

There is no entry fee and you don’t need to pre-register, though you will need to register as a member of this site (Birding-Oz.com.au) to post your results. There is no charge for registration on BirdingOz.com.au and it only takes a minute or two.

Your approach to this event can be as competitive or non-competitive as you want. Many participants will see the event as simply a chance to have fun while satisfying their own curiosity about how many species they can photograph in a day.

There are no prizes on offer. Nonetheless the honour system rules and please be conservative with your identifications.

Upon completion, every participant should publish their list of species for which they have achieved an identifiable photograph as a reply to this thread. Please have your lists up by one week after the event. A few days later, a master list will be compiled and posted. Please attempt to order your list in line with conventional taxonomy (ie same order as in your field guide will do). Please also identify each species with the current accepted scientific and common name, again the names used in your field guide will suffice.
